Oxford University Lithuanian Society (OULS) was established to unite the Lithuanians in Oxford, both students and employees. We also welcome the foreigners interested in Lithuania, its culture and economy. We organise activities to connect with Lithuania and to keep the Lithuanian spirit in Oxford alive. Just have a look at our slideshow.
OULS hosts a number of speakers each term. We have already had the pleasure of hearing Egidijus Aleksandravičius, Jūras Banys, Leonidas Donskis, Mindaugas Kvietkauskas, Edward Lucas, Kristina Sabaliauskaitė, Tadas Vidmantas and a few others. You can find some of the videos on our website – just keep in mind that they are available only in Lithuanian.
We are also proud of our annual commemoration of the Lithuanian Independence Day, which attracts around one hundred Lithuanian students and young professionals from all over the UK. People are always surprised as to how many guitars we manage to smuggle into colleges on this occasion.
There are numerous things that we do inside the University of Oxford, but there are as many that we do outside its walls. Together with Cambridge University Lithuanian Society we have established a successful student mentorship scheme called ‘Academic Buddy’. This scheme is aimed at consulting the Lithuanian pupils who would like to apply to the Universities in the UK.
Our events are open for everyone to join.
You can find more information on our website, Groupspaces and Facebook pages.
